Poppies Inspiration

2018-04-11 14.09.59
I was getting my hair done yesterday and a brightly colored notebook there caught my eye! (see photo at the end of this post!) Inspiration for card designs are everywhere!!  I snapped a picture and couldn’t wait to recreate it!  I began by stamping these gorgeous poppies from Stampinback onto Strathmore watercolor paper with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I decided to color them with Zig markers, using my waterbrush to move and soften the color.  I used a Fine Point Sharpie to accent the centers.  Pressing each flower onto a Versamark embossing pad then heat-embossing with clear powder gave them a beautiful shine and really popped the color!

Once dry, I fussy-cut them out, and set them aside while I searched for some striped paper!  I found this design and trimmed it down to adhere to a panel of white card stock, then to a black base card.  I laid out the blossoms and used bits of foam tape to attach them in layers to the card front.  For the stems, I just snipped pieces of the same white card stock and glued them into place.

As a card maker, I find inspiration all around me, even from the most mundane things!  I haven’t decided if I’ll add a sentiment to this or not.

Can you  blame me for wanting to recreate this striking image into a card?!  I’m just sayin’!!  😀

Glorious Stampinback Poppies!

Aren’t these poppies glorious?!  They come in a half-sheet of unmounted blossoms by Stampinback .  I colored them with Zig Clean Color Brush markers and added details with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink .  Stampin Up’s Doily background in Broken China distress oxide makes a beautiful backdrop.

The canning jar and leaves are from the Bouquet For You set by Stampendous.  I don’t own a cutting machine yet (it’s in the mail!) so I fussy-cut all these images and mounted them on various levels using double-stick foam tape.  A final spattering of black and white craft paint finishes my card!

After painting this Stampinback poppy with my Zig Clean Color brush markers, I covered the image with Versamark and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder for a glossy surface.  Stampin Up’s Doily and Dictionary background stamps are in the background and dainty die-cut leaves accent the blossom.
