A customer requested a ship card for her Dad’s birthday; naturally, I pulled out Tim Holtz Getting There set which has this wonderful ship image! I had no idea what I’d make and am thrilled with how it evolved! Firstly, I tapped some Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink onto my craft mat, spritzed with water and dragged my panel through the wet ink. I did this several times, letting the color cover most of the card stock. After drying with my heat tool, I heat-embossed the ship in black . I then continued to build up layers of color on the panel using Broken China, Mermaid Lagoon, Black Soot and Picket Fence, drying between each color. When I was satisfied with the result, I stamped a nautical map image with Iced Spruce Distress Oxide ink and sponged a little Fossilized Amber in the upper right corner for a bit of light. I wanted the water to have movement, so I poured a small amount of white craft paint onto my craft mat, and ran the edge of an old credit card in the paint, then swiped it around on the card to mimic waves. I LOVE how that looks!! I stamped a couple of nautical images in black, one from the Tim Holtz Getting There set and the anchor is from Stampin Up’s By The Tide set. Spatters of black and white craft paint give added dimension and interest. The final steps were to mount the panel onto a layer of red card stock, then a layer of white and finally, onto a gray base card. I stamped an older Stampin Up sentiment onto a scrap of paper, trimmed it into a pennant, sponged some Black Soot around the edges and lifted it with a piece of fun foam. This card took about 40 minutes to make and I absolutely love it!! I hope you do too!
